GLOBE Program - SSA

2023 International Virtual Science Symposium

Being an active member of the globe movement, our school submitted the following 5 projects.


i) Impact of poor waste management on breeding of aedes mosquito: Moroto slum,Mombasa County.
ii) Investigating the impacts of mangrove restoration ecosystem, in Kidongo Baharini.
iii) Study of water quality from the Natural water sources with.
iv) Natural compost: combating chemical fertilizers
v) Investigating the impact of mulching on soils.

Two of our projects (Investigating the impact of mulching on soils and Impact of poor waste management on breeding of Aedes mosquito: Moroto slum,Mombasa County)  made it to the final draw among 3 others from Madagascar and Nigeria.

The Project ‘Investigating the impact of mulching on soils’ done by Khushi Aggarwal, Darren Amore, Khairoon Ridhwan and Celestine Claude was selected as the winning project in Africa and will be attending the 2023 GLOBE Annual Meeting in July which will take place in Denver, Colorado.

GLOBE INTERNATIONAL VIRTUAL SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM 2022


This year, the theme for the symposium was, Engineering Solutions for A Changing Climate
As a school, we entered a total of six projects for the competition. Three of them got 100% score which is rated as 4 stars.
Out of the 6 projects, 3 made it to the final wheel and one emerged the winner for the African region.

The winning project. 

SSA submitted a project entitled – GREEN BALCONIES AND TERRACES: A SOLUTION TO CLIMATE CHANGE.
All the GLOBE Club members in Junior school took part in the project under the guidance of their teachers Mr. Rama Chigamba, Mr. Richard Muema and Ms. Beatrice Oyange
Three of the club members were chosen as the main presenters and will participate in the 2022 GLOBE annual meeting student experience virtually from 25th to 28th July.

WINNERS OF 2021 GLOBE INTERNATIONAL VIRTUAL SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM.

This year, SSA again participated in the GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS)! The IVSS focused on Data Analysis.
SSA submitted a project entitled:-
ASSESSING HOW ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES AFFECT THE DISTRIBUTION AND DYNAMICS OF MALARIA AND CROP PRODUCTION USING SATELLITE- BASED NDVI

On Earth Day, 22 April 2021, the project was among the 7 projects that were selected to receive stipends.
SSA received a four-star student research badge on the above project.
The project was supervised by Mr. Kennedy Otieno – Teacher SSA.
